FULL - 101 - Yoga and Meditation

Take some time to rest, refresh and restore your body, mind and spirit. With over an hour of physical Asana practice, we will have the opportunity to slowly open up the tighter tissues in our bodies, and then build some strength and stability with more energizing poses. No experience necessary. Lots of options. Will be offered to allow participants to practice to their ability. We will close our time together with a guided meditation.

This session will be repeated in the afternoon, so please only sign up for one of 101 or 201.

You will need a yoga mat, and two blankets or towels

FULL - 103 - PAINT! Exploring Mixed Mediums in Painting - Watercolour and Acrylic Landscapes

Explore the world of acrylics, watercolours, and multi-media. You will learn techniques that emphasize the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. All materials will be provided but we will be collecting a $5 surcharge to help cover the costs of this activity.

This session will be repeated in the afternoon, so please only sign up for one of 103 or 203.

FULL - 104 - Organizing and Planning in Multiage Classrooms

This session will provide participants with a brief introduction to what multi-age teaching and learning is all about. In this hands-on session, we will be looking at the various grade level outcomes and curriculums for Manitoba in the different subject areas. I will be sharing different year long plans and unit plans for different grade levels. We will also be working in grade groupings to co-create 20 or 30 month plans for multi-age classrooms. If you work in a single grade, we will work to create integrated unit plans that address the multi-level classroom. Small-group discussions and Q&A opportunities will be included in this session.

FULL - 105 -V- Science of Reading and The Simple View of Reading in French Immersion (VIRTUAL)

In this half day workshop, Kim will share the What, Why, and How of adapting a structured literacy approach in a second language classroom. Teachers will walk away from this workshop with practical, high-yield strategies for each of the six elements in a structured literacy approach: oral language, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, listening and reading, comprehension, as well as strategies to support students' printing, spelling, and written expression. Most importantly, Kim hopes all teachers leave this workshop feeling more confident in their ability to help struggling readers in French immersion, and inspired to learn more about the science of reading!

FULL - 106 - Grades 1-5 - Teaching Math Step-by-Step to Build Teacher Confidence

Are you looking for guidance on how to structure and differentiate your math class so you can feel more confident about teaching math? This workshop applies to all English or French teachers, resource/student services teachers, and math consultants. Handouts and video links will be available in both languages.

In this workshop, you will learn:
How you can structure and differentiate your math class to teach math to all students.
How to assess students.
How to plan your math daily, weekly, and annually.
How to plan for each report card term.
Tips for writing report card comments.
Tips and video links for guiding parents at home.
How to correct place value mistakes such as 13/30/31 to learn numbers from 1-20, 1-100, 1-1000, 1-1 million.
The focus will be on teaching number vocabulary through phonological awareness while using ten frame cards, number tents, and more.

FULL - 107 - Building Thinking Classrooms

Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl is a fantastic way to increase math engagement with students. His book focuses heavily on the higher grade ranges. However, this presentation will focus on what you need to do to set up your early or early/middle years classroom for implementation of BTC. This presentation is intended for teachers who are brand-new to BTC, or know about it but are having trouble figuring out where to start. This is an IN-PERSON SESSION with active participation. Participants may be asked to share their experiences, with the activities to be recorded and shared with the afternoon virtual session. (This will be optional).

Information will be shared about what this type of classroom might look like and the benefits of multi-age environments. Presenters will address how curriculum fits into multi-year planning as well as common concerns of teachers and parent communities. We will share various approaches or beliefs that underlie a multi-age philosophy with examples of how this looks in various settings. As this webinar is one hour, time will be provided for participants to explore various MAME resources online that have been curated and selected for this session.

FULL - 110 -V- Strategies for meeting the needs of Neuro-Divergent learners in the classroom (VIRTUAL)

Neurodivergent learners may process information differently from neurotypical individuals, leading to unique strengths and challenges in various areas such as communication, social interaction, sensory perception, and learning. In the classroom, it's important to recognize and accommodate the diverse learning needs of neurodivergent students to create inclusive and effective learning environments. During this half day session a teacher from MATC will delve into the intricate dynamics of meeting the needs of neurodiverse learners in the classroom - how to use teaching strategies and classroom adaptations that meet the needs of all students for optimal learning outcomes.

FULL - 301 - Implementing Structured Literacy

Do you ever wonder how to teach early reading and spelling skills so ALL your students will benefit?
Participants will briefly examine the research behind the Science of Reading, including the main ideas behind the simple View of Reading, the Scarborough Reading Rope, and the five components of reading. They will be walked through all the components of a structured literacy lesson as it relates to a scope and sequence. Center activities and ideas for home reading will be shared. Lesson components include Visual Drills, Alphabet Warm-ups, Sound Board, Blending Drills, Word Reading (Decoding) and Dictation (Spelling = Encoding). Some lesson plans will be shared for use in Tier 1,2 and 3, as well as co-teaching situations.

FULL - 302 - Inclusive Literacy Practices from a Speech/Language Perspective

Join two Speech-Language Pathologists as we explore best practices for inclusive literacy learning in the classroom for students who have complex communication needs. In this full day session you will learn how to support students who have speech sound difficulties in shaping sounds while engaged in research-based phonological awareness and letter-learning activities. You will explore how to embed language learning goals (vocabulary, grammar) into tier 1 literacy tasks that all students can participate in. Alternative assessment practices and meaningful literacy engagement for non-speaking students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) will also be discussed. We will review the roles and responsibilities of the school team as we work towards an inclusive and multi-sensory approach to learning.

FULL - 205 - Structured Literacy in French - Scope and Sequence

Comme participant de cet atelier, vous allez explorer un document d'appui des compétences de base en littératie de la maternelle à la 2ième année. On va présenter une progression des apprentissages basée sur la littératie structurée qui complémente le programme d'études. Les enseignants peuvent utiliser cet outil pour appuyer les élèves en liitératie FL2. FULL - 206 - Problem Solving with Real-Life Math Manipulatives

Learn how to incorporate and differentiate problem solving and math concepts in the classroom with everyday items such as money, measuring cups, tape measures, thermometers, clocks, and more. Real-life items provide authentic opportunities for students to build number sense and critical thinking skills so they can easily transfer their understanding to more advanced math concepts such as fractions, decimal numbers, and integers. Problems can be adapted from Grades 2 to Grades 6 using minimal vocabulary and student interests. Examples of closed and open problem-solving questions will be provided and ideas of how to incorporate video problem solving using Seesaw or Flipgrid will be discussed.
