October 25, 2022

Nathan Martindale to Serve as President, Chris Darazsi as Vice-President

MTS Vice-President Nathan Martindale will assume the role of president on February 24, 2023 – the date of President James Bedford’s retirement – until the MTS Provincial Council AGM in May. Chris Darazsi, Provincial Executive member-at-large, River East Transcona Teachers’ Association, appointed today by MTS Provincial Executive (PX), will serve as vice-president.

Bedford is pleased to see new leadership named but makes clear he is in no way stepping back from his current duties.

“February is a long way off and there’s a lot of work to be done between now and then, especially in our efforts to secure appropriate and equitable funding of public education in Manitoba,” he says. “An early announcement of my retirement date, however, ensures a seamless transition in February.”

Darazsi began his teaching career in 1999 as the itinerant band teacher in Flin Flon. He moved back to Winnipeg to teach in the St. Vital (Louis Riel) School Division, before joining River East Transcona School Division in 2005.

After 17 years teaching in French Immersion schools, Darazsi has spent the past six years working for members of the River East Transcona Teachers’ Association (RETTA), serving as president for the last three. He is proud to have served Manitoba teachers as a member-at-large on the Provincial Executive on a variety of committees in various capacities.
