Professional Perspectives: Personnel Leadership
Course Overview
This course explores the knowledge, technical abilities, and interpersonal skills required for effective personnel leadership. School leaders interact with a variety of individuals and groups within the school and in the community. They work individually with teachers and other staff daily as they supervise, coach professional growth, and evaluate performance. They also work at a group level with various staff, parent, and community members to develop collaborative planning and problem-solving mindsets. As they develop teams, foster collaboration, and support the growth and development of staff, school leaders build capacity to achieve successful outcomes for students.
Instructors
Cheryl Chuckryis a Staff Officer in the Professional and French Language Services Department at The Manitoba Teachers’ Society. She is passionate about working and learning with adult learners and supporting members in leading and learning. Cheryl has 25 years of experience in schools in various roles, such as a K-12 French Immersion teacher, vice-principal, principal, and consultant. She also has a background in coaching and student services roles.
Brahim Ould Baba is the Department Head for the Professional & French Language Services Department and the Instructor of Record for this course. Dr. Brahim Ould Baba is the Professional and French Language Services Department Head at The Manitoba Teachers’ Society. In this capacity, he oversees the professional learning programs and services. He is passionate about supporting members in the areas of equity and diversity in schools, and Francophone Education. Brahim has worked as a K-12 teacher, consultant, and university instructor.

Accreditation
Successful completion of all six classes with additional readings and assignments will meet the requirements for a 3-credit hour Field-Led university course credit. For information on the Certificate in School Leadership, see Certificate in School Leadership Guidelines to Qualification (gov.mb.ca)
Please note: In order to have the Field-led credit transferred to your program, you must be registered in:
- a post baccalaureate program in Educational Administration at either the University of Manitoba, or Université de Saint Boniface; OR
- a Master of Education program at Brandon University.
You must also obtain a Letter of Permission from that university prior to the start of the Field-led course. Check with your university regarding deadlines for application.
The Manitoba Teachers’ Society also offers this Field-led course in an AUDITED version for Professional Learning purposes – assignments are not required to be completed, no Letter of Permission is required from your university and no university credits will be applied.
