K-12 Recommendations Delayed

The province has announced that the recommendations from the K-12 review on education will be delayed.

Education Minister Kelvin Goertzen said that it was the intention of government to release the report at the end of March, however because of COVID-19 pandemic teachers and education staff need to be focused on the needs of their students.

The minister has received the report and said that there are many excellent recommendations but that the government will not be implementing any significant changes until at least summer of 2021.

ā€œGiven the current situation, this is the right decision,ā€ said MTS President James Bedford. ā€œWe look forward to seeing the recommendations and the opportunity to discuss them with government and other stakeholders in detail.ā€

Bedford said that delaying implementation is greatly appreciated by all teachers because these are anxious times for those working in our public schools.
