Session Descriptions

Morning Sessions
“NEW RESOURCES FOR ACE COURSES”
The pandemic and move to remote learning last year had us all looking for new, engaging, and authentic applied commerce resources. The whole group morning session will include presentations by several organizations that offer resources that can be used to enhance teaching and learning in the applied commerce classroom (physical or virtual):

The League of Innovators: Inspire a classroom of future leaders, innovators and changemakers!
Have a group of students that are wondering how to use their passion and be more entrepreneurial in their lives? We’ll bring you tangible tools and techniques to inspire a class that is more self-aware, purpose-driven and uses an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset to create social change. With these tools, you’ll not only help your students grow personally and professionally but allow them to be holistic leaders that are solving important problems that matter most to them. Themes include social entrepreneurship, personal development, career development, and inquiry learning.
Session Presenter: League of Innovators, (https://www.theleagueofinnovators.com)

Everfi: Explore Blended Learning
EVERFI designs blended-learning resources in the areas of STEM & Career Exploration, Financial Literacy, Social-Emotional Learning & Health and Mental Wellness. The resources are cost-free due to community partners across Canada. This session will focus on learning about EVERFI's course offerings, go through online registration, getting started with your class and enrichment ideas for your students.
Session Presenter: Leila Pullum, Everfi, (https://platform.everfi.net/)

Start Podcasts: Using Podcasts to Teach Business/Entrepreneurship
High school students interested in pursuing a future career in a commerce related field such as economics, entrepreneurship, business, marketing, technology and finance will all greatly benefit from learning directly from the local entrepreneurs we interview on Start Podcast. Podcasts as a medium in general are a great source of information and can be a great teaching tool. Learn how you can incorporate this great resource into your classroom!
Session Presenter: Margaux Miller, Start Podcast Host and Producer, (https://startpodcast.ca/)

Learn about the Scrum Methodology Training Session for Students
A representative from Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters will provide detail on the scrum methodology training session they offer. This course provides Manitoba youth and educators a chance to discover a new way of learning, organizing projects and accomplishing more in a shorter time-period. This one hour "learn by doing" workshop will discuss scrum methodology, which taps into agile project planning techniques to enhance students' ability to develop and deliver quality assignments with more independence.
Session Presenter: Jennifer Logan, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters

Afternoon Session
