Former MTS president Aubrey A. Asper (1967-68) passed away on Sunday July 14, 2019.
He was 89 years old.
After two decades in the classroom, he joined The Society’s staff in 1973 – the beginning of 20 years of distinguished service.
His first job at MTS was as the assistant director of economic welfare. He went on to serve as assistant general secretary from 1982-89, eventually taking on the general secretary role from 1990-93.
The former president of the local association at Rivers Camp has left his mark on education through his leadership roles in numerous educational and teachers’ organizations on the local, provincial, national and international level.
He and his colleagues greatly contributed to the achievements and improvements, especially in regards to collective bargaining, that members enjoy today.
He was a true champion for education and teachers.
