The Partners for French Education released a report, with guidance from several community consultations, on the future of French-language education in Manitoba.
The report makes two recommendations, calling for a complete overhaul of the French-language education system.
The first recommendation involves the creation of a bilingual deputy minister position within the Department of Education and Training.
The second recommendation calls for the implementation of a new administrative structure that brings together the continuum of French-language education – “cradle to rocker”.
The new administrative structure would be comprised of all the relevant education partners such as Éducatrices et éducateurs francophones du Manitoba and Division scolaire franco-manitobaine, all working together and sharing expertise with a common goal – quality French-language education.
If these two recommendations are not accepted, the committee wants the province to reinstate the assistant deputy minister position, as it existed prior to October 2017. This position must be designated as “bilingual”.
