The Manitoba Teachers’ Society maintains exclusive responsibility for our social media channels, which serve our more than 17,000 members and the broader public. These platforms exist to inform, engage, and foster respectful dialogue in alignment with the professionalism and values of the teaching profession.

We welcome discussion and are committed to responding thoughtfully and professionally. However, content or behaviour that is disrespectful, harassing, discriminatory, or intimidating will not be tolerated. We are committed to ensuring our social media channels remain safe, inclusive, and respectful environments for all.

Please note the following guidelines for engagement:

Respectful Conduct

MTS members follow aCode of Professional Practice in their communications with the Society and with each other. We expect the same standard of respectful behaviour from everyone who engages with our posts — members and non-members alike.

Zero Tolerance for Hate

Personal attacks, hate speech, or derogatory comments based on race, ethnicity, creed, national origin, citizenship, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, transphobia, disability, marital status, age, or other protected characteristics will not be tolerated. Dog whistles, profanity, spam, trolling, commercial advertising, and disguised bad language (e.g., using asterisks or altered spelling) are also prohibited.

Comment Moderation

We will remove any comments that are insulting, offensive, threatening, toxic, abusive, or disrespectful. We reserve the right to delete comments, block accounts, or disable comment sections at our discretion. Comments that are aggressive, repetitive, or attempt to dictate our content may also be removed. We do not notify individuals when comments are deleted, or accounts are blocked. To respect staff time and workload, we do not edit or partially moderate comments. If any part of a comment violates these guidelines, the entire comment will be removed. Please note that not all comments or direct messages will receive a response.

Contrary Opinions Welcome — With Civility

We do not block individuals simply for expressing a different point of view. It is the tone, manner, and respectfulness of the interaction that determines whether further action is taken.

Thank you for helping us keep our social media channels welcoming, constructive, and respectful for all.
