Resistance on the Giimooch: The Life Story of Mary Courchene Lesson Plans

Resistance on the Giimooch Teacher’s Guide follows the Anishinaabe teachings of the Four Directions, the guide is informed by learnings from Knowledge Keeper Sherry Copenace and a summary by Elder Dan Thomas. The project is a collaboration between MTS and Seven Oaks School Division.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Lesson Plans

September 30 is the new National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s also Orange Shirt Day across Canada. The Manitoba Teachers’ Society – together with Manitoba’s education partners and many Indigenous organizations – will be honouring residential school survivors. Lesson plans and resources are available for all grade levels.

Secret Path Lesson Plans

As part of our ongoing commitment to engage teachers in reconciliation work, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society recently assembled a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous teachers from across the province to discuss and explore the Secret Path and to create lesson and unit plans to support the use of this resource for the teaching about Residential schools in Manitoba classrooms.

As part of our ongoing commitment to equity and the inclusion of 2STLGBQIA+ Identities in our schools, The Manitoba Teachers’ Society has created lesson plans for use in early years, middle years and senior years classrooms on the History of Pride, Identity, Pride and Protest, The Sissy Duckling and Tango Makes Three.

The ArQuives Lesson Plans

Most educators receive little formal education about queerness, transness, and gender fluidity. Most students do not learn about gender and sexuality in K-12 schools outside of health lessons or anti-homophobia campaigns. This means you have been systematically denied education about queerness and transness, so if you are worried that you do not know enough and will make mistakes, this is your chance to learn.
