The province has announced that Noni Classen will be the next commissioner of teacher professional conduct.
Classen will assume her new position on May 19 following two decades of research and advocacy for the Canadian Centre for Child Protection in Winnipeg.
She appears in Manitoba’s online teacher registry as Naomi Ann Classen, certified in 1994 – a Class 4 teacher in good standing.
“A K–12 public education background was non-negotiable for us, and we’re pleased to see that reflected in this appointment, “said MTS president Lillian Klausen. “Given that Ms. Classen holds a teaching certificate, we hope that, in addition to her focus on child protection, she shares a commitment to upholding the status and integrity of the teaching profession.”
Klausen said that MTS looks forward to working collaboratively with the new commissioner, ensuring a fair and balanced framework that serves the best interests of both teachers and students.
