Participants will take all sessions
1 - The Nature Prescription: Wellness on the Trails
Take a closer look at the powerful effects of nature on your brain and body. Kelsey will lead a guided walk through the serene FortWhyte trails, demonstrating how time spent outdoors can improve mental and physical health. You will also participate in a practical self-care planning activity to discover how you can integrate nature into your life in ways that suit your personal needs and wellness goals.
_
2 - Unearthing Stories: History, Bison, and the Land
Explore the dynamic nature of history and discover how the stories we tell often say more about our present than our past. Join Sabrina for a guided hike to see the bison while discussing Indigenous farming, traditional land management, and how our understanding of history evolves.
_
3 - Backyard Ecology: Discovering the World of Birds
You don't need to travel far to become an ecologist! This session offers a practical introduction to the vibrant world of birding. Katrina will provide you with the essential skills to identify birds and become a "birder" anywhere—even in your own school playground. Learn how to conduct a simple eco-inventory and transform any outdoor space into a living laboratory.
_
4 - Prairie Climate in Focus: Understanding Our Changing World
Delve into the most pressing environmental issue of our time. Emma will deliver a compelling presentation from ClimateWest, focusing on the specific impacts of climate change on the Canadian prairies. This session will explore how our actions affect the local climate and what the future may hold for our region.
_
5 - Slow the Flow: The Journey of Our Water
Where does our water come from, and where does it go? This session provides a deep dive into urban water conservation through FortWhyte's 'Slow the Flow' program. Minna will share valuable resources and lessons that explain the journey of our drinking water and how we can all conserve water and prevent pollution.
