Sessions - 8:30 AM-3:00 PM

In-Person Session

Multilingual learners (MLs) can achieve academic success through careful, systematic, and intentional instruction. In this interactive live webinar, Tan will share research-based strategies for supporting multilingual (EAL) learners at various stages of proficiency in English. The workshop will answer these essential questions:

- How can we adapt materials so that students who are just beginning to learn English can better understand what we are teaching?
- How do we scaffold the development of academic English for ML learners?
- How do we design instruction to meet the needs of students at different stages of English in the same classroom?

By the end of this workshop, teachers will have applied practical, easy-to-implement strategies to their lesson for Monday and beyond.

Presenter: Tan Huynh

Tan Huynh (@TanKHuynh) is a secondary school teacher specializing in English language acquisition, an author, podcaster, and consultant. His suggestions are rooted in his experience teaching students from 5th to 10th grade in public, private, charter, and international schools. He also taught secondary social studies and spends much of his days co-planning and co-teaching. Tan shares his application of research-based strategies on his blog, podcast, and online courses with the hopes of celebrating teachers who answer the call to serve multilingual learners.
