Statement from the Manitoba Teachers\u2019 Society<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Manitoba Teachers\u2019 Society stands in solidarity with educators, staff, students, and families in Minnesota following disturbing reports of U.S. federal officials entering Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, detaining staff members, and forcing the school\u2019s closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are also deeply concerned by reports that other schools in the Minneapolis\u2013St. Paul area have been warned to prepare for possible enforcement actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These events represent a serious breach of the fundamental expectation that schools remain places of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presence of federal enforcement actions in or around schools creates fear, trauma, and disruption for students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of our commitment to addressing broad societal issues that promote social justice, cooperation, and understanding, The Manitoba Teachers\u2019 Society affirms that schools must be respected as protected spaces where the safety, dignity, and human rights of all are upheld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
