Society Donates $10,000 to Colleagues

James Bedford, President of The Manitoba Teachers’ Society, says the Society’s provincial executive has passed a motion to contribute $10,000 to colleagues in Ukraine.

“Manitoba teachers know our province has a special connection to Ukraine, a country currently subject to a brutal invasion,” said Bedford.

“Our hearts are with teachers in Ukraine as they struggle through a horrific war,” he said. “Our thoughts also go out to their loved ones around the world, and especially to MTS members who are Ukrainian born or of Ukrainian heritage and who continue to teach knowing their own families and relatives abroad are in danger.”

The Society’s $10,000 donation was made through the Canadian Teachers’ Federation to support Education International’s Urgent Action Appeal Solidarity Fund for use by two teachers’ unions in Ukraine: 1) the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine (TUESWU) and 2) the Free Trade Union of Education and Science of Ukraine (VPONU).
