Pandemic highlights dedication of teachers and school staff across Manitoba
Remember that teacher who showed you kindness, whose influence sticks with you today, who may have helped you choose a career or discover a passion—or who pointed you back on the right path? The Manitoba Teachers’ Society is offering you a way to show your thanks.
“Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is about saying thank you,” says The Manitoba Teachers’ Society President James Bedford. “During this pandemic, we all have a perfect opportunity to share our stories about teachers and school staff who had a profound influence on our lives – using the hashtags #teacherappreciation and #staffappreciation.”
Bedford says the Society has already gathered stories from Ace Burpee, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Fred Penner, Michael Redhead Champagne, political leaders, and other influential Manitobans like Joy Loewen, Lara Rae and Jordan Van Sewell. Those are up on the Society’s YouTube channel. “But everyone who’s been in public school knows there are thousands more stories of teachers and staff who continue to make a difference for our youth.”
The Society will be asking for and sharing favourite teacher stories on Twitter (@mbteachers), Facebook (@manitobateachers) and Instagram (@mbteachers) throughout Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, February 7-11.
Bedford says teachers appreciate the parents, guardians and other individuals who’ll be expressing their thanks. “Even a quick social media post is welcome,” he says. “We’re just grateful to be on the same team as parents and guardians, and we’re so proud you’ve entrusted your children’s education to us.”
