MTS Lobby Day

Members of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society’s provincial executive spent the day at the Manitoba Legislature meeting with MLAs from all political parties, raising awareness about the realities in classrooms and speaking to the importance of funding our education system to ensure its sustainability and quality for future generations.

MTS president James Bedford said that educators are anxiously awaiting the recommendations from the K-12 Education Review and that The Society has embraced the review from the get go because “improving public education is always a priority.”

In addition to education funding, the MTS delegation spoke candidly about the impact of poverty in the classroom, the growing need for more resources for special needs students and those requiring mental health supports.

The importance of recruiting and retaining French language teachers was also on the agenda.

Bedford stressed the importance of working collaboratively, across party lines, to ensure positive outcomes for current and future students.
