MTS Videos – Activism

The 300 delegates to the annual general meeting of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS) stormed the Manitoba legislature on May 23, 1996 to protest government proposals aimed at stripping their collective bargaining rights.

Twenty-two years later, more than 1500 public school teachers, principals, vice-principals and supporters packed the front of the Legislature to protest against provincial funding that has fallen short of the rate of inflation for two straight years. That has resulted in cutbacks at the classroom level and the loss of teaching positions in some divisions, all while classroom sizes have been rising.
