Teachers who have retired from teaching in the public school system, unemployed teachers, and teachers currently teaching outside the public school system are eligible to apply for Associate Membership in The Manitoba Teachers' Society.  The Society represents teachers in Nelson House and Sandy Bay teachers’ associations pursuant to MTS Bylaws. A teacher who has retired from employment with a public school division and is in receipt of a pension pursuant to The Teachers’ Pension Act, and is substitute teaching or on a term contract; as an associate member:

• shall be entitled to:
• legal services in relation to the administration of any applicable collective agreement.
• be members of any Special Area Groups.
• receive a copy of the Society’s handbook and other publications as determined by the Provincial Executive
• shall not run for office, nominate others, or vote for the MTS president or be a delegate at the annual meeting of Provincial Council.
• shall not have access to the Educator Assistance Program.

All other associate members:

• shall be entitled to:
• be members of any Special Area Groups.
• receive a copy of the Society’s handbook and other publications as determined by the Provincial Executive
• shall not run for office, nominate others, or vote for the MTS president or be a delegate at the annual meeting of Provincial Council.
• shall not have access to the Educator Assistance Program
• shall not be eligible for legal services.
