Two Manitoba teachers honoured with Prime Minister's Awards

Two public school teachers in Manitoba have been honoured with the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence.

One received a certificate’s of  achievement and the other a certificate of excellence.

Awarded the certificate of excellence was Melanie Gertley, a science teacher at West Kildonan Collegiate. The awards announcement noted that she “brings modern forensics to Hamlet and takes chemistry and physics underwater.”

Winner of the certificates of achievement was Hamiota high school teacher Bruce Coulter, who teaches physics, chemistry, biology, math and information and communications technology.

He was cited for he work helping students “learn to be a part of, and contribute, to a community and the community makes them better learners.”

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence honour outstanding and innovative elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines who use information and communications technology (ICT) to better equip their students with the skills needed to meet the challenges of a 21st-century society and economy.
