ELECTION STATEMENT

2010- 2011 will be a very significant year for The Manitoba Teachers’ Society.  With internal discussions on the future of MTS, public requests for accountability and reporting, and government officials discussing the costs of education in an open forum, we need unity to protect what we’ve gained and to build on our successes.

Communication is Key.  We need to speak with government and challenge them to improve legislation that benefits our members!  We need to work with our educational partners to express a message of the strength in Public Schools! But most importantly, we need to have open, 2 way and effective dialogue with our members!

Listening to each other; expressing our viewpoints; and respecting our differences is what gives The Manitoba Teachers’ Society the effectiveness and influence it has with the public, with Government and with other educational partners.  The more we work towards One Voice, our Strength shows through all situations that affect our members!  With One Voice, we can express our concerns to those who have the ability to make changes and the changes will come!

The Manitoba Teachers’ Society strength is not in its elected officials!  It’s not in the people who work within its walls!  Our Strength lies with its 15 000 individual members Standing Strong; Standing United; Standing as One!  Our leadership must continue listening to those individual members to work towards One Voice, One Strength!
